Welcome to Lakes Celebrant
Personable, Memorable Lake District Ceremonies
Have you got an individual story you want to tell here in the Lake District? I’m Valerie, a qualified Independent Celebrant conducting Wedding Ceremonies, Vow Renewals, Baby Naming Ceremonies, Funerals & Memorial Ceremonies here in the Lake District that suit the personalities of my clients.
As a child, I enjoyed music, reading and storytelling and vividly remember one of my stories on the line of Enid Blyton’s, The Famous Five. Other passions of mine were sewing, craft and learning languages. I also spent time at school learning German, French and then Russian and later continued my learning at evening classes as well as spending many years learning Spanish as I love Spain.
Many years later, I am now able to develop my childhood passion for storytelling as well as my love of travelling and getting to know other cultures as I have trained with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants (FPC). I now work with a small number of clients each year giving you my time and energy to develop and deliver a creative, personal and meaningful ceremony for you.
Many years working in training writing, developing and delivering sessions and courses has been a great foundation for my Celebrant role.
I am also interested in learning about other countries and their individual cultures and interests which I was able to put to good use when I worked as a Lecturer in Business and taught European Studies which was a good excuse to travel extensively in Europe and beyond to America, South America, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. A part from travelling, I enjoy swimming, yoga, walking, cycling, learning Spanish and playing in a Ukulele band named The Flukes.
I am a Christian and happy to include aspects of religion into your ceremony if you wish equally if you want a non-religious ceremony, I am happy to help you design a ceremony to your wishes. Although I would describe myself as a traditional wedding person, I am open to different types of ceremony – just tell me your plans and I’ll help you bring them to life.
Although I am not fluent in any language other than English, if you are a couple who wants aspects of your ceremony delivered in another language – either Spanish, German or French, I would be prepared to rise to the challenge for you! If you are a mixed faith or multi-cultural couple, you may want to talk to me about including some elements of your heritage in your ceremony.
My ceremonies are couple centred and hand-written to reflect the two of you. I will write your ceremony with love following a lot of thought to make sure that it will be everything you’re both looking for.
